2009-2010 Academic Year Meal Plans
For the 2009-2010 academic year, five KU Cuisine meal plans will be offered, so we know there's an option for you. Five KU Cuisine plans offer a combination of all-you-care-to-eat meals in any Student Housing dining center plus "KU Cuisine Cash" on your KU Card (similar to a dining debit card) so you can pick up a meal or snacks. KU Cuisine cash will be on your active KU Card. Your KU Card will be required for each transaction. Check out the comparison chart for details:
"Dining Center Meals" can be used at any of the Residence Hall All-You-Care-To-Eat Dining Centers: Ekdahl Dining Commons (Mrs. E´s), Oliver Dining Center and/or GSP Dining Center. Half of the Dining Center Meals are available per semester and must be used by the end of the semester. The meals WILL NOT roll over to the next semester. There is no limit to the number of times the Dining Center Meals can be used in one day. The KU Card is non-transferable; so Dining Center Meals cannot be shared. Please use Guest Passes or KU Cuisine Cash when hosting a guest. "KU Cuisine Cash" is value added to the magnetic stripe on your KU Card and is used like a dining debit card. Half of the KU Cuisine Cash is available at the beginning of Fall semester and the balance that remains at the end of Fall semester will rollover to Spring semester. The other half of the KU Cuisine Cash will be added to the account at the beginning of Spring semester. "Guest Passes" are assigned to the KU Card and can be used at the all-you-care-to-eat Dining Centers to host friends or family. Half of the Guest Passes are available per semester and must be used by the end of each semester. Guest passes do not deduct from the total Dining Center Meals. Please inform the cashier that you wish to use a Guest Pass before your KU Card is run through at the register. ¨Two-Year Tuition Compact¨ Rate is a budgeting plan for parents and students. The price of the meal plan will remain as stated through the next two academic years. This will help in financial planning instead of wondering if the meal plans will increase the next year. If a student does not require a meal plan for the second year, there is no penalty or refund. How to Choose a Meal Plan
Questions to consider when choosing a meal plan:
How to Change Your Meal Plan
Your responses determine the quantity of meals you would want through the year/semester. If you typically eat three meals a day and live too far from home to leave on weekends, then the 480/220 plan is your best value. If you plan to join a sorority/fraternity that also provides meals, you may want to select one of the lower plans.
You may change your meal plan choice at the Department of Student Housing in Corbin Hall or by sending an email to housing@ku.edu with your name, KU ID number and what meal you want. Fall semester deadline is September 4, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. Spring semester deadline is January 29, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.
How to Add Meals to an Existing Plan
Blocks of 10 meals can be purchased as well any time during each semester for anyone who already has an active KU Cuisine Meal Plan. You can print a form to add meals here or you may email housing@ku.edu. Please include your name, student ID number and specifically what you want (example: 10 meals for $74 or 30 meals for $222). Your university account will then be billed for the meals.
How to Add Money to Your KU Card
You may add cash to your KU Card, Beak Em Bucks account, via the KYou Portal through the "Finances" tab or at a cash-to-card machine located in the Kansas Union, Watson Library, or Anschutz Library. Beak 'Em Bucks can be used for food purchases, printing, photocopying and laundry. "Beak 'Em Bucks" is a declining balance account that is automatically set up for you when the KU Card is issued. In order to use Beak 'Em Bucks, you need to add to the account. There are several options available: (1) on-line via the Kyou Portal at www.ku.edu/kyou under the "Finances" tab, (2) selecting it through Optional Campus Fees at www.ku.edu/~options, or (3) at a campus cash-to-card machine. Beak 'Em Bucks can be used for food purchases, printing, photocopying and laundry. For additional information, please contact the KU Card Center at (785) 864-5845 or kucard@ku.edu. Guest Prices at Dining Center Locations: Breakfast $8.50, Lunch/Brunch $9.50, Dinner $9.50
