The Official KU Meal Plans
KU Cuisine is based on a ¨customers first¨ philosophy and we´re confident we can meet your needs - every meal, every day. Offering maximum flexibility in numerous campus locations - including residence hall (all-you-care-to-eat) dining centers, retail cafés in the KU Memorial Unions and convenient Hawk Food Stops (snack bars) - KU Cuisine has the plan for you.

KU Cuisine has grown in response to customer interest every year and just keeps getting better. We're all about service and convenience and committed to meeting your needs at KU.

For the 2008-2009 academic year, we have adjusted the Dining Center Meals and KU Cuisine Cash to accomodate changing customer needs. Having this added KU Cuisine Cash will provide you with greater flexibility when dining at our on-campus locations.

2008-2009 Academic Year Meal Plans
For the 2008-2009 academic year, five KU Cuisine meal plans will be offered, so we know there's an option for you. Five KU Cuisine plans offer a combination of all-you-care-to-eat meals in any Student Housing dining center plus "KU Cuisine Cash" on your KU Card (similar to a dining debit card) so you can pick up a meal or snacks.

KU Cuisine cash will be on your active KU Card. Your KU Card will be required for each transaction.

  • Example: A Housing contract student with a 480/220 Plan will get: 240 meals, $110 and 5 guest passes for the Fall semester. The student´s account would reset at 240 meals, $110 and 5 guest passes for the Spring semester. Any KU Cuisine Cash left over from the Fall semester would roll over to the Spring semester. The student's account balances for meals, KU Cuisine Cash and guest passes will be reset to "zero" at the end of the academic year.
To help clarify the KU Cuisine Meal Plan components, please read the following:

"Dining Center Meals" can be used at any of the Residence Hall All-You-Care-To-Eat Dining Centers: Ekdahl Dining Commons (Mrs. E´s), Oliver Dining Center and/or GSP Dining Center. Half of the Dining Center Meals are available per semester and must be used by the end of the semester. The meals WILL NOT roll over to the next semester. There is no limit to the number of times the Dining Center Meals can be used in one day. The KU Card is non-transferable; so Dining Center Meals cannot be shared. Please use Guest Passes or KU Cuisine Cash when hosting a guest.

"KU Cuisine Cash" is value added to the magnetic stripe on your KU Card and is used like a dining debit card. Half of the KU Cuisine Cash is available at the beginning of Fall semester and the balance that remains at the end of Fall semester will rollover to Spring semester. The other half of the KU Cuisine Cash will be added to the account at the beginning of Spring semester.

"Guest Passes" are assigned to the KU Card and can be used at the all-you-care-to-eat Dining Centers to host friends or family. Half of the Guest Passes are available per semester and must be used by the end of each semester. Guest passes do not deduct from the total Dining Center Meals. Please inform the cashier that you wish to use a Guest Pass before your KU Card is run through at the register.

¨Two-Year Tuition Compact¨ Rate is a budgeting plan for parents and students. The price of the meal plan will remain as stated through the next two academic years. This will help in financial planning instead of wondering if the meal plans will increase the next year. If a student does not require a meal plan for the second year, there is no penalty or refund.

How to Choose a Meal Plan
Questions to consider when choosing a meal plan:

  • Will you be involved in extracurricular activities (sorority/fraternity, sports, band)?
  • Will you be on campus most weekends?
  • Will you have a job that provides meals?
  • Is the closest dining center in another building from where you live?

If you did not answer "yes" to any of these questions, consider choosing the 500/100 (approx. 15 meals per week).

If you answer "yes" to one of these questions, consider choosing the 400/200 (approx. 12 meals per week).

If you answer "yes" to two of these questions, consider choosing the 320/300 (approx. 9 meals per week).

If you answer "yes" to three or more of these questions, consider choosing the 220/400 (approx. 6 meals per week).

This is just a guide; please make a decision that is comfortable to you.
